Creative and Performing Arts in the Senior School

Pupils passionate about the arts are in their element at Boundary Oak!

Influential teachers nurture and celebrate talents and interests, encouraging pupils to develop their creativity.

Excellent facilities at the heart of our school include the Acorn Theatre and an art and design studio, significantly enhancing the experience for those studying the arts.

Art

Pupils explore and foster their creative potential at school through mixed media, including fine art, photography, fashion and textiles, ceramics and clay work, pottery, and print-making. Museum and gallery visits, both in the UK and through international trips, help develop their understanding, interpretation and appreciation of the arts.

Pupils with a strong interest in art can extend and develop their learning at clubs within our school’s Enrichment Programme. We also run an inter-house art competition, with the best pieces submitted to national ISA and Globeducate competitions.

Excellence in National and Global Competitions

Art and Design GCSE
We offer a two-year art and design course that fosters creativity and develops conceptualisation, research, and analysis skills.

Music

Pupils engage in musical ensembles and performances, festivals, musical theatre productions, orchestral concerts, competitions and performances.

We support individuals in gaining the confidence to make a debut performance at our Teatime Concerts or the skills to take music grading examinations.

As part of our Enrichment Programme, pupils can extend their learning through one of many music-based clubs, such as choir, orchestra, musical theatre, or rock band.

Music lessons

Many of the children learn an instrument with one of our peripatetic music teachers, who are experienced orchestral players, singers and gigging band musicians.

  • Lessons are available for:
  • Piano/keyboard
  • Singing
  • Drums
  • Guitar (acoustic, electric, bass, ukulele)
  • Recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone
  • Violin, viola, cello
  • Brass
  • Music theory

Learning to play an instrument or to sing is not only hugely beneficial to cognitive development and fostering emotional intelligence but also enriches other aspects of school life, helping to shape a well-rounded, confident individual.

Drama

Our specialist teachers inspire pupils to discover their creative potential and build confidence through a variety of exciting performance opportunities. Whether it’s acting in theatrical productions, delivering powerful public speeches, reciting poetry, or engaging in spirited debates, pupils have the chance to shine in front of an audience.

Behind the scenes, pupils can also explore the world of stage production, with hands-on experience in lighting, sound, costume, and make-up design.

These diverse opportunities not only foster artistic expression but also develop teamwork, leadership, and communication skills, equipping pupils for their future careers and beyond.

LAMDA qualifications

Individuals who opt to do additional drama peripatetic lessons can work towards LAMDA qualifications, performing monologues, duologues, or devised theatre – or all three!
