A Year of Compassion in Action at Boundary Oak School
- Junior School
- Senior School
At Boundary Oak School, kindness is an integral part of everyday life. It can be seen in small moments, thoughtful choices, and the way pupils consistently look out for one another. Over the past year, our Kindness Counts initiative has continued to flourish, as our pupils put the school values into action, they have led meaningful charitable and community initiatives throughout the year. Alongside volunteering their time and spreading acts of community spirit, Boundary Oak pupils have raised an impressive £4,184, supporting causes at local, national and global levels.
Pupils at our Fareham school are encouraged to identify where support can be helpful and to take the initiative to respond with thought and care. It is important that our pupils understand charitable acts are not limited to transactional, it is also equally as important to lend their time, effort and resources in ways that help our community.
Cultivating Pro-Active Fundraising Through Creativity
We set our pupils the challenge of thinking outside the box when it came to our fundraising this year – what could they do differently? As they rose to the occasion, we have seen a wide range of activities that reflected their creativity and enthusiasm for our important causes. From baking gingerbread biscuits and crafting friendship bracelets and Kindness Counts badges, to leading a community dog walk for Dogs Trust and organising a Whole‑School beach clean for WWF, our pupils impressed us with their teamwork and creativity as they explored new and exciting ways to fundraise together.

Supporting Local Charities and Nurturing Community Connections
In addition to our school charity partners, our pupils extended their support to other charities, spreading the Kindness Counts message far and wide, including: 500 items donated to Fareham Food Bank, 80 pairs of socks donated to Stone Pillow and filling 20 shoeboxes with essential items and gifts for the Rotary Shoebox Scheme. Our Junior School choir sung carols in Fareham Shopping Centre and the new Welborne Village Community where their music brought moments of joy and festive cheer. While our Senior School members of the Charity Club visited the Macmillan Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Busy Bees: Buzz for a Cause
One of the most joyful moments of the year was Buzz for a Cause, a Whole-School charity fundraiser in support of the Honeypot Children’s Charity. A joint venture between our Charity Club and our other co-curricular clubs saw classrooms filled with excitement as pupils worked together to make honey cookies, bumblebee clay models, crochet bees, beeswax and personalised bookmarks in preparation of the event. Throughout the afternoon, pupils spoke with confidence about why they were fundraising and who they were helping. Knowing that the money raised would help support young carers, the same age as them, access respite. The fundraiser was later recognised with an ISA Award, celebrating the collaboration and positivity pupils brought to the day.

Growing Our Community Through Events
Kindness Counts is as much about shared experiences as it about raising funds. Over the year, pupils came together for two glow discos, sold daffodils for Mother’s Day, collected donations during the school’s steam train visit for the 80th VE Day anniversary, and led a Santa Fun Run that welcomed local schools. The year ended on a festive note with the Christmas Cheer Café, a jolly fundraiser that brought pupils and staff together as they raised a hot chocolatey toast to the community connections built and the difference made in 2025.
What’s Next for Kindness Counts?
As the new year begins, no time has been wasted, as pupils have already voted for their 2026 School Charity Partners. We are delighted to announce that the pupils have chosen to support Dementia UK, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, and a charity close to our school community’s heart, Bethan’s Fund. With plans already underway, we look forward to watching our pupils continue to grow, explore, and make a positive difference, knowing that every act of kindness, no matter how small, helps build a stronger, more caring community.
