Junior School curriculum
For confident, curious, and independent young learners
At Boundary Oak, we broadly follow the National Curriculum for England, adapting it to spark curiosity and encourage questioning, rather than just memorising answers.
Our kind and caring teachers inspire through personalised lessons, tailoring learning to each child's interests and needs. Whether it’s providing extra support or offering a challenge, we ensure that every child’s learning journey is met at their level.
A wholesome environment, fostering a sense of security and confidence building with the friendliness of a village school.-Parent, Boundary Oak Prep School
Subjects
Pre-Prep
In Pre-Prep, class teachers deliver daily lessons for core English, mathematics, and science subjects.
History, geography, digital learning, RE, and PSHE are taught through cross-curricular topics.
The school has dedicated facilities to teach PE, art, languages, and music. For outdoor learning, our 30-acre campus set within beautiful woodlands, is the perfect location.
As pupils begin their transition to meet the academic requirements of Key Stage 2, they enjoy the support of a class teacher while taking on new responsibilities, such as being a 'Buddy’ for younger children. These opportunities for leadership continue to grow, with roles like House Captains and members of the School Council allowing pupils to develop important skills for the next stage of their journey with us.
Prep
Starting in Year 4, class teachers focus on core and humanities subjects (English, maths, science, geography, history, religious education, and computing). The children also receive specialist teaching in French and Spanish, food and nutrition, music, drama, sport, and art, continuing into Year 5. This model ensures breadth of curriculum while still being within a nurturing form group.
From Year 6 classes are taught by specialist subject teachers, with lessons in:
- Art and design
- Computing
- Drama
- Food and nutrition
- Geography
- History
- Maths
- Music
- PE
- PSHE
- Religious education
- Science

Differentiation occurs in all lessons to stretch and challenge the most able and provide sensitive support wherever needed.
