Arts
Creative and Performing Arts in the Junior School
A well-rounded experience for budding artists, musicians, and actors.
We celebrate the creative talents of our Junior School pupils, inspiring them to explore and self-express through music, drama, and art in exciting and imaginative ways.
Art
Art skills are taught and developed by specialist teachers from Pre-Prep onwards. Pupils encounter a range of inspirations and express themselves via various media, including printing, pottery, and clay work.
Music
Music is a big aspect of the Junior School with termly teatime concerts, annual showcases, singing assemblies and the Year 5 and 6 choir.
Music is deeply woven into school life at Boundary Oak, with specialistic teaching throughout the Junior School.
Our co-curricular programme offers a variety of opportunities to explore a love of music including choir, orchestra, and musical theatre, alongside many chances to perform.
Many of our children learn an instrument with our team of visiting peripatetic teachers who are singers, orchestral players, and band musicians. Our vibrant community of young musicians adds to the joyful atmosphere of our school.
Optional instrumental tuition
Learning to play an instrument or to sing is not only hugely beneficial to cognitive development and fostering emotional intelligence but also enriches other aspects of school life, helping to shape a well-rounded, confident individual.
Lessons are available across:
- Piano/keyboard
- Voice
- Drums
- Guitar (acoustic, electric, bass, ukulele)

Music education is known to be hugely beneficial in terms of cognitive development and fostering emotional intelligence.
Drama
Drama builds confidence and resilience and is enjoyed by all through the curriculum taught by a specialist teacher.
We are proud to have our purpose-built theatre where pupils enjoy their weekly drama lessons, and participate in theatrical performances, public speaking, and poetry recitals.
With our annual theatre production (open to Years 4 and up), LAMDA qualifications and Drama Club, pupils interested in drama and performance have plenty of opportunity to get hands-on experience and grow in their abilities and self-confidence.
